Understanding Medication-Assisted Treatment Plans

Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines medication, such as Suboxone (buprenorphine), with behavioral therapies to address opioid use disorder. It challenges the misconception that willpower alone conquers addiction. Addiction alters brain chemistry permanently, making cessation more complex than mere choice. We reject the notion of “cold turkey” as feasible for most and advocate for MAT’s sustainable approach. Suboxone blocks opioid receptors, curbing cravings and preventing highs from opioids like heroin or prescription painkillers.

  • A proven, evidence-based approach to treating addiction
  • Helps to deal with withdrawal symptoms and cravings which can make it easier to work towards recovery goals like connecting with family, keeping a job, or a healthier lifestyle
  • Supplements medication with therapy to address past trauma for more effective treatment
