Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines medication, such as Suboxone (buprenorphine), with behavioral therapies to address opioid use disorder. It challenges the misconception that willpower alone conquers addiction. Addiction alters brain chemistry permanently, making cessation more complex than mere choice. We reject the notion of “cold turkey” as feasible for most and advocate for MAT’s sustainable approach. Suboxone blocks opioid receptors, curbing cravings and preventing highs from opioids like heroin or prescription painkillers.
